Study Away Brazil: Education, Culture, and Social Change

Spend two transformative weeks in São Paulo, Brazil, as part of a seven-week hybrid course that combines online and in-person learning. The course begins with weekly Saturday online meetings and includes at least one in-person pre-departure session in Redlands before travel. Throughout the online sessions and the two-week immersion in Brazil, you’ll study and collaborate with students and faculty from Mackenzie University, exploring Brazil’s educational system through site visits, guest lectures, and joint projects. Along the way, you’ll engage with practitioners advancing educational equity in local schools and immerse yourself in Brazil’s vibrant art, history, and culture.

Travel dates: May 29 - June 15, 2026

Course dates: May 2 - June 18, 2026 (7-week course)

Cost: $2,400 (does not include airfare)

Brazil Program Highlights

While in Brazil, students will live at ULiving São Paulo, a modern, student-centered residence that houses international students from around the world and offers daily opportunities for cross-cultural connections.

As part of the experience, you'll:

  • Visit the Paulo Freire Institute to explore the legacy of critical pedagogy and its relevance in today's classrooms and communities
  • Collaborate at Mackenzie University through discussions, workshops, and joint research projects with Brazilian peers and faculty
  • Experience Brazil's premier art collection at the Pinacoteca do Estado (Pinacoteca Museum), engaging with works that illuminate identity and history
  • Take a day trip to the Guarujá beaches for a cultural and environmental perspective along São Paulo's sparkling coastline
