Accessibility at Redlands

If you are a student in need of accommodations to fully access our campus and/or curriculum, we encourage you to connect with the accessibility office for accommodations and services.

About accessibility

The Academic Support and Accessibility (ASA) team at the University of Redlands strives to support, empower, and integrate students with disabilities into all aspects of campus life to help them access a comprehensive University experience.  As part of Student Affairs, ASA works collaboratively with other departments, programs, and teaching faculty to ensure that students have equitable access to all aspects of campus life in order to have a positive, comprehensive university experience.

The University of Redland’s Commitment to Accessibility and Student Success

The University of Redlands is committed to providing students of all abilities access to all programs, services, and activities as mandated by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (“504”) and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (“ADA”). The University’s Academic Support & Accessibility (ASA) strives to create an accessible and inclusive campus experience by not only providing necessary accommodations for equal access to academic programs but also implementing innovative ways to support students with disabilities.  ASA’s work reflects Redland’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Reducing the Stigma of Disability

You are not alone!  According to the National Center for Education Statistics, 19% of undergraduate and 12% of graduate students report having a disability.  The actual number of students in college with a disability is estimated to be higher, based on underreporting.  At the University of Redlands, we strive to promote campuswide disability awareness, increase visibility of disability supports, and facilitate a culture of inclusion.  ASA’s work supports the institution’s mission by focusing on purposeful student engagement and ensuring that all of our processes, services, and environment are accessible and enrich the student experience.

Accommodating Students with Disabilities

Disability is defined by the ADA as “a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities, a record of such an impairment or being regarded as having such an impairment.” There is no definitive listing of covered impairments.  University of Redlands follows current legal standards and national best practices in determining whether a student has a disability.

Students with disabilities may request accommodations for academics, campus housing or other programs and activities.  Learn more about how to request accommodations.  https://www.redlands.edu/student-life/student-resources/accessibility/how-to-request-services
