Johnston Center for Integrative Studies keeps in touch with Johnston alumni, and frequently invites them to visit and share how their Johnston education has impacted their approach to work, community, scholarship, activism, art and music.
Every five years, Johnston hosts a reunion called "Renewal" for Johnston College/Center graduates, faculty and staff from ALL years. Be on the lookout for the next one!

Explore the key areas where your support makes a lasting difference:
Learning Beyond the Classroom Fund
This fund empowers students to pursue transformative academic and experiential opportunities that fulfill the third pillar of a Johnston education: learning beyond the classroom. Grants from this fund support:
- Study away programs
- Community service internships
- Professional development and career-building internships
- Civic engagement and activism
- Community-based student projects
As a program support fund, any unused funds roll over annually. Once fully spent, new contributions are needed to continue this vital support.
Johnston Student Project Fund
Creativity and initiative are at the heart of Johnston. This fund fuels student-led projects of all kinds, including:
- Artistic and research endeavors
- Student-taught courses
- Senior projects
- Campus events and community initiatives
Like the Learning Beyond the Classroom Fund, this is a program support fund—flexible, renewable, and essential to student innovation.
Building Johnston Community Endowment
This endowment enhances Johnston’s distinctive living-learning environment by funding capital improvements that fall outside the university’s standard budget. Examples include:
- Facility upgrades
- Equipment purchases
- Enhancements to shared community spaces
Gifts are invested to generate long-term impact. Only a portion of the earnings is spent each year, ensuring the fund grows and supports Johnston in perpetuity.
Founders’ Chair in Alternative Education
This visionary endowment—established during the Johnston 50th anniversary celebration—will fund a new faculty position dedicated to alternative education. While many commitments to the Chair are deferred in nature and will not be received for years to come, the fund is already generating income that supports:
- Visiting faculty and lecturers
- Faculty advising and mentorship
- Curriculum diversification
Once fully funded at $2.5 million, a permanent faculty position will be created to support the Johnston community. Until then, the fund’s earnings are used to strengthen faculty resources year after year.
James Johnston Faculty Resource Endowment
This endowment provides flexible, ongoing support for Johnston faculty. It helps fund:
- Johnston Faculty Fellows
- Shared visiting positions with other departments
- Adjunct and lecturer roles
- Faculty advising and academic support
Like all endowments, the principal remains untouched while investment earnings are used annually—ensuring sustainable support for generations to come.
Why Your Gift Matters
Every contribution—large or small—helps sustain the spirit of Johnston. Whether you're supporting student exploration, faculty excellence, or the spaces that bring our community together, your generosity fuels the future of integrative, student-driven education.
